We are pleased to announce his schedule for public performances and workshop that will be taking place in March 2015.
On 8 March 2015, award-winning Master Storyteller Jim Weiss will be staging three separate storytelling performances in our former Parliamentary Chamber, which is now known as the Chamber at The Arts House. The Chamber today boasts excellent acoustics, an excellent venue for us to enjoy storytelling at its best. The Arts House is located at 1 Old Parliament Lane, Singapore 179429.
Ticket(s) for the performances can be purchased directly from The Arts House Box House or www.bytes.sg. Tickets can be purchased through e-mail on the week of 19 January 2015. Please e-mail to email@example.com with the following information: Name, Mobile Phone Number, E-mail Address, Credit Card Number, the Session(s) that you would like to purchase tickets for and the Quantity of Tickets that you are purchasing.
Ticket(s) will be available for sales on www.bytes.sg on the week of 26 January 2015. The Arts House is the Official Venue for Master Storyteller Jim Weiss’s Public Storytelling Performances in Singapore this year.
Tickets are sold based on a first time first served basis. Should you are purchasing tickets on behalf of a school group, or for a team of educators, you are encouraged to e-mail your sales requests to firstname.lastname@example.org early.
Do note that GST and a booking fee of SGD2.00 per ticket are applicable to the ticket fees.
Session 1: The World’s Greatest Folktales
Time: 10.00am to 11.00am
Recommended for children aged 5 to 8.
- The Tortoise and the Hare
- The Giant of Grabbist (An English folktale with a big surprise)
- Why Flies Buzz (Jim takes on the personae of eight different animals and humans in this rollicking African classic.
Session 2: The World’s Greatest True Adventures
Time: 2pm to 3.30pm
Recommended for children aged 8 to adults.
- The Mummy’s Tomb. Follow a path of mystery in pursuit of the hidden treasures of lost Egyptian pharaohs.
- The Queen’s Pirate. Sail with history’s most swashbuckling adventurer, England’s Sir Francis Drake, pirate, second mariner to sail around the world (without a map), and ultimately national hero as he risks everything to save England from invasion by the world’s mightiest empire.
Session 3: An Evening of Classic Mysteries
Time: 6pm to 7.30pm
Recommended for children aged 8 to adults.

The Art and Joy of Reading Aloud to Children with Emphasis on Values and Virtues

This is the only public workshop that will be held for parents and early childhood educators (the syllabus in this workshop is certainly applicable to parents and educators of school-going children too) in March 2015. Do not miss this chance to hear and learn from the world’s renowned storyteller on how to make the very most of your precious read-aloud time with your children and how to value stories as a significant tool for imparting values and virtues.
In this interactive workshop, participants will learn:
• Why stories are essential at home and at school
• To value stories as a significant tool for teaching values and virtues
• To improve one’s character voices in reading aloud
• To build a story and bring the characters to life
• To encourage his/her children to read and write their own stories
• How stories can relate a family history

WORKSHOP ON PUBLIC SPEAKING FOR SCHOOL-AGE CHILDREN ON 11 MARCH 2015, WEDNESDAY
Public speaking is an art and Master Storyteller Jim Weiss is here to teach your child how to deliver their message to a live audience with eloquence, integrity and determination. This engaging session will be comfortably interactive as your child will pick up skills on how to find and use their speaking style, while looking and feeling confident at the podium.
This workshop targeting children aged 9 to 12 will be held on 11 March 2015, 3.30 to 6.30pm in the Imagination Room, National Library Building. The workshop fee is SGD50 nett per child.
